Thing is, Caine's whole life is a lie. He's actually a man called Hari Michaelson, one of the most famous Actors on Earth. What he does in Ankhana and the rest of Overworld is broadcast to millions across the globe, violence and bloodshed making shitloads of cash for the Studio (and, to a lesser extent, for Hari himself).

But just because it's a lie, does that make it less real?

Sometimes this is Caine, an Overworld assassin. Sometimes it's Hari Michaelson, a kid from the Mission Districts or a teenager in Actor school or a middle-aged Studio Director. Sometimes it's Dominic Shade, just a retired assassin wandering where he may. Sometimes it's Jonathan Fist, a man who made a deal he can't get out of. But, y'know ... names are only words people assign to things.
